TP not triggering until candle closure

Hi Forex Tester Team,

I noticed in a back test I completed today that it appears the TP price set for a trade does not trigger until a candle prints that closes beyond the TP price - rather than when touching that price (or, technically, when slightly exceeding it due to spread/slippage) as should be the case.

My trade was a EUR short on the 4-hour chart, and price blew through my TP price by over 40 PIPs and then wicked up and closed just above my TP price, but my TP order did not trigger with this candle as it should have. It wasn’t until the following candle that closed well below my TP price that the TP order was triggered and my trade was closed.

Please see screenshot to illustrate what I am referring to:

The final candle that printed in this screenshot should have triggered my TP and closed the trade, but it did not - evidently, because the candle wicked up and ended up closing above the TP price.

Note: the following candle that did close well below my TP price did trigger my TP order and closed the trade.

How does this impact your experience?

Thank you for your response, Serhii, but if I’m interpreting your response correctly, I do not think this addresses my concern.

In the example I had provided, I placed a sell order to go short, the entry of which would have filled right at the bid price. My TP order, within the context of a sell/short trade, was therefore a buy order that would have filled at the ask price. Yes, being that my chart is displaying the bid price, I would have expected price to need to go a bit lower - by the amount of the spread at the time - than my set TP price to fill the order, but this would have likely been around a couple PIPs at the time. As I mentioned in my original inquiry, however, price had dropped below by TP order price by more than 40 PIPs and still did not trigger the buy order.

I’ve seen additional trades since then in my back testing where price similarly blows through my TP order by more than a few PIPs but then ends up wicking up or down and closing before the TP order and not triggering it. It isn’t until a candle closes beyond my TP order that it is triggered. I believe what should happen instead is as soon as price touches my TP - or, in the case of buy orders on a ‘bid’ chart (or sell orders on an ‘ask’ chart), beyond my TP by the amount of the spread - the TP order should automatically trigger regardless of where that candle ends up closing. I believe your explanation would be correct if the spread was over 40 PIPs on the EURUSD at the time price hit my TP, which is not likely unless there there happened to be a major news report released at that time that caused a massive drop in price that briefly spiked the spread up to over 40 PIPs.

Hopefully that makes sense. I believe this is a bug that needs to be fixed, but please review and share your thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Dave Stalker

Hi @User! Thank you for the detailed description of the problem and screenshots.

Please note that for a buy order, the TP should be triggered at the Ask price, not the Bid price. Please enable the display of the Ask price in the chart settings and place the TP relative to the Ask price. Note that the candles are formed based on tick data with a floating spread. If you want to use a fixed spread, you can deactivate the floating spread option in the project symbol settings. Thank you.
