I would like to request a feature that allows users to create, document, manage, and assign trading strategies to individual projects.
1. Project descriptions
When creating a project, I would like to have an option to add a description or notes explaining what the project is intended to test.
This description should also be editable at any time, so I can update it as the project evolves.
For example:
"Testing EUR/USD breakout strategy on the 15-minute timeframe with a 1:3 risk-to-reward ratio."
This would make it much easier to understand and identify the purpose of a project later.
2. Strategy catalog
I would also like an option to create a strategy catalog where I can define and document my strategies.
For each strategy, I could specify things such as:
Strategy name
Description
Entry conditions
Exit conditions
Risk management rules
Risk-to-reward ratio
Stop-loss rules
Take-profit rules
Timeframes
Additional notes
Once a strategy has been created, I should be able to select it when creating a project.
3. Assign a strategy to a project
When creating a project, I would like to be able to choose which strategy I am going to use.
For example:
Project: EUR/USD Backtest
Strategy: Breakout Strategy
Configuration: 1:3 RR
I should also be able to change or assign the strategy later if needed.
4. Strategy variations
An important use case for me is testing different variations of the same strategy.
For example, I might have a strategy called:
"Breakout Strategy"
I could then create two projects:
Breakout Strategy – 1:3 RR
Breakout Strategy – No Fixed Target
Both projects would use the same base strategy, but with different exit/target rules.
This would allow me to compare the performance of different variations of the same strategy without losing track of what each project is testing.
5. Easy project identification
The combination of project descriptions + strategy assignment + strategy catalog would also make it much easier to find and organize projects.
Instead of having to remember what each project contains, I could quickly see:
Project: EUR/USD Breakout Test
Strategy: Breakout Strategy
Variant: 1:3 RR
Description: Testing fixed 1:3 RR exits on the 15-minute timeframe.
This would be especially useful when I have many backtesting projects and want to compare different approaches.
Overall benefit
I can currently achieve something similar manually by maintaining my own strategy catalog and adding descriptions to every project, but having this functionality built directly into FTO Online would make the workflow much more organized, searchable, and efficient.
It would also make it significantly easier to run multiple backtests using the same strategy with different parameters or rules and then compare their results.
Ideally, strategies would be reusable templates that can be assigned to projects, while each project could still have its own specific configuration or variation.
