Happy New Year. I know it is still early in the year, but I would like to share a request that is particularly important to my trading practice and testing workflow.
In FX trading, volume is a decision-making factor that is just as critical as price. Many traders do not rely solely on price action; they actively monitor changes in volume to determine entries, exits, and situations to avoid.
However, in the current ForexTester Online implementation, volume bars are displayed only after a candle has closed.
In real market conditions, volume accumulates dynamically in real time, and traders often make decisions based on how volume is building within the candle, not after it has finalized.
Because of this discrepancy, the current behavior introduces a lag compared to live market conditions, which leads to:
Missed trading opportunities
Reduced accuracy in backtesting and practice results
This is not a niche issue. It affects both:
Users who rely on the default volume bars
Users who trade with volume-based indicators
I understand that there are valid concerns regarding server load, development cost, and the fact that not all users prioritize volume in their trading. With that in mind, I would like to propose this as an optional feature, rather than a mandatory change:
An option to display volume accumulating in real time on a per-tick basis
Default behavior remains unchanged
Enabled only by users who need it
A paid add-on would also be acceptable if necessary
If true tick-by-tick volume accumulation is technically difficult, a compromise solution could be to split the expected candle volume proportionally by tick count and display it as pseudoโreal-time accumulation. Even this approximation would allow traders to make decisions that are far closer to real market execution than the current candle-close-only display.
ForexTester Online is an excellent and highly valuable product. Improving the real-time behavior of volume display would significantly enhance market realism and the reproducibility of real trading conditions during testing.
Thank you for taking the time to review this request at the beginning of the year.
